Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!  Between today and the festivities of the Super Bowl last night, it's already been a very fun start to the week!  I hope everyone is surviving the winter weather.  Spring will be here before we know it.  I do have a few important pieces of information to share, so be sure to read on!

Classroom Happenings:
  • Behaviors-  It's that time of year where everyone is tired of being stuck inside, we are feeling comfortable in the building and the classrooms, and we are itching for spring break.  All of this tends to show itself in the way of behaviors becoming lax and issues on the rise.  Over the last few weeks we have slowly seen an increase in the room of little behaviors that are starting to become bigger behaviors.  Before it gets too much further, I'd love if you could have a conversation with your child and ask the following questions:
    • Am I showing up prepared for class each day? I have all my supplies (pencils, art supplies, folders, chromebook, etc.).  My chromebook is fully charged.
    • Am I treating the adults in the building with respect?  I raise my hand when I want to talk.  I listen when the teacher is talking.  I'm not distracted by items I've brought from home or friends around the room.  I do what is asked of me the first time.
    • Am I treating my classmates with respect?  I speak to them kindly.  I don't interrupt their learning process or distract them during lessons.  I respect their personal space and keep my hands and feet to myself.
  • Family Fun Night-  CBIS will be having a Family Fun Night on Thursday, March 3 from 5:30-7pm.  More information will be coming home about this, BUT FOR NOW.... each team has been assigned a theme basket that we need to put together which will be auctioned off that night.  Our theme is "Ice Scream, You Scream!"  So, I'm needing your help in providing a donation to go toward the purchase of items for our team basket.  If you could send in a $1 or $2 donation with your child and have them deliver it to me, I'll be able to buy our items for a fun ice cream themed basket!  Thanks in advance for your help!
  • President's Day-  This is just a friendly reminder that we do NOT have school on Monday, February 21.  This is not an e-learning day either.  Enjoy the time off!
Language:
We are coming to the end of our evidence-based writing unit.  This is DUE TOMORROW!  The kids spent part of last week and today working through lots of peer editing on their pieces and will submit the final work to me tomorrow.  If you haven't, ask your child to show you their essay!  Give them your thoughts on their writing!  We will be taking our final assessment for our writing unit on Wednesday, and then on Thursday we will begin our next book study.  I'm excited to get into this next story and really hope the kids enjoy it!

Science:
We are still in space, but getting close to the end.  This week and part of next week we will finish our study learning about the planets.  We will have a quiz over the planets along the way and finish our space unit next week with one final assessment over everything we have learned.

Grades:
As we have started this final semester, it's important that the kids get off to a great start.  If you haven't checked in on your child's grades or work lately, now would be a great time to do so.  There are lots of missing assignments and work already and I'd hate to see that mountain grow.  Ask your child to pull up PowerSchool and show you how they are doing.  Take a look at each class and see if they have any assignments marked missing.  All work can be found in Google Classroom for them to be completing at home.

I hope you all have a great week!  As always, keep reaching out with questions or concerns!
